Motorola in Vietnam
Motorola was established in Vietnam in 1994 as the first American communications company to commence operations in Vietnam after the normalization of trade ties between both countries. Motorola currently has several core businesses in Vietnam that provides government and commercial trunking systems, two-way radios, mobile network infrastructure and mobile handsets. As one of the largest US telecommunications companies in Vietnam, Motorola’s presence is one of long-term commitment with dedicated resources to help the people of Vietnam develop their economy through advanced telecommunications solutions.
As a member of the global business economy, Motorola strongly believes in making a positive impact on the communities in which it operates. An area of focus is reaching out to the young generation since they are the future of the company and the world. In tandem with the growth of new and emerging technologies, the development of new and existing talent is important to jump-starting innovative ideas. In Vietnam, Motorola’s focus has been on the support of higher education in Vietnam and the growth and development of talented human resources. On education, Motorola has assisted both the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City Universities of Technology in setting up campus laboratories. Motorola also helped in the building of elementary schools and donated PCs to secondary schools in the rural provinces to help support the Vietnam Government’s “Internet to School” program. To further cultivate talented human resources in the IT industry, Motorola has been partnering with the Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on a program to support the growth and development of the local IT industry. Since 2003, Motorola has sponsored US$400,000 to support the program that has led to scholarships and awards to top IT students as well as a series of workshops for IT professionals in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and at Motorola’s software center in Australia. Since entering Vietnam, Motorola has been at the forefront in providing training programs for local customers. Motorola delivered training courses on topics ranging from spectrum management, sales and marketing, to the latest available technologies. Motorola also supported the visits by a number of Vietnamese delegations to the US in an effort to keep regulators and operators updated on the latest Motorola products, technologies and applications.
